The NMHU Women's Basketball team has won two games in a row after their 70-60 road victory over their bitter rival, the Grizzlies of Adams State College. Adams State took the initial lead as the Cowgirls got off to a slow start. However the Cowgirls were able to turn things around, and they took the lead midway through the first half of play. The Grizzlies were able to regain the lead, but the Cowgirls fought back. When the buzzer sounded to the end the first half, the Cowgirls entered the locker room with a three point lead, up 33-30. The Grizzlies were the first to score in the second half, but try as they might they couldn't get out in front of the Cowgirls. Finally midway through the second half of play the Grizzlies managed to take a one point lead. The Cowgirls regained their composure at this point and began to put distance between themselves and Adams State. The Cowgirls would lead by as much as 12 points in the second half, and when the final buzzer sounded the Cowgirls had secured their second consecutive victory, by the final score of 70-60. Tiffany Darling, improve to a 7-9 record in the RMAC and 11-9 in overall play.

1.31.2012 | Women's Track & Field
The NMHU Women's TF team jumped four spots in the current national rankings released 1/31 by the USTFCCCA. The Cowgirls are currently ranked #11, the highest in-season ranking in the program's history. The Jump comes on the heels of a strong performance at the NM Collegiate Invitational that was held on 1/27-1/28 in Albuquerque, N.M. At that meet, the 4x400 relay of
Fiona James,
Deandra Nelson,
Jillisa Grant and
LaShondra Ray improved to the #3 spot on the national Performance list clocking sub 3:50 for the first time ever. The relay now trails only national sprint powerhouses St. Augustine and Lincoln University.

The NMHU Cowboys completed their weekend RMAC sweep on 1/28 with a convincing 88-71 win over the Mountain Lions of the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs in front of a great home crowd. The Cowboys dominated the game from the get-go as they held UCCS to just nine points through the 10 minute mark of the first half. The Cowboys would lead by as much as 18 points in the first half of play as they went into the halftime break leading 39-32 over the Mountain Lions. In the second half it would be more of the same as the Pokes continued to pour on the pressure leading by as much as 27 points in the second half.
Dominic Baca would put the final nail in the coffin for the Cowboys draining a three point bucket in the final minute of play off a
Micah Shepard pass to put the Cowboys up 88-71 as the Pokes cruised to their tenth win of the season. With the win the Cowboys are now 10-9 overall and 8-7 in RMAC play. The Cowboys currently sit at sixth place overall in the latest RMAC standings as they continue their quest for their fourth straight trip to the RMAC Shootout while under Head Coach

The NMHU Women's Basketball team ended up victorious at home against the Mountain Lions of the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, by the final score of 71-65. The Cowgirls were looking to get their conference season back on track and they did so against the Mountain Lions. The Cowgirls had a great night shooting from the free-throw line as they shot 80% from the charity stripe making 29 of their 36 attempts. They also benefited from a 37% shooting percentage from behind the three-point line. The Cowgirls were able to overcome a game high scoring effort from the Mountain Lions' Danielle Brown and NMHU had two of their players score in double figures. With the win the Cowgirls, led by Head Coach
Tiffany Darling, improve to a 6-9 record in the RMAC and 10-9 in overall play.
