Cowboys Rout Metro State College 19-8

The NMHU Cowboys continued their winning ways with a 19-8 shellacking of the Roadrunners of Metro State College. The Cowboys finished the day with 25 hits, their second highest hit total of the year. Their highest hit came earlier this year when the Cowboys tallied up 35 hits in a 25-5 rout of RMAC for Colorado Christian. After today’s win the Cowboys are now 34-16 on the year and 24-10 on the season.

The Cowboys jumped out to an early lead in this one as they enjoyed a comfortable 8-3 lead after four innings of play. That would not be enough for the Cowboys as they piled it on scoring 11 more runs to take this one by a final of 19-8. The Cowboys finished the day with an impressive .543 team batting average as the tallied up 25 hits, nine doubles and one homerun.

Offensive leaders for the Cowboys include: Chris Perez, Oscar Sigala, Joe Mulroy and David Bustillos. Perez had the best day of all the Cowboys at the plate as he went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, three RBI’s and three doubles. Sigala finished going 4 for 5 with four runs scored, one RBI and one double. Mulroy went 4 for 5 with four RBI’s. Bustillos finished the day going 4 for 6 with three runs scored and two RBI’s.

On the mound for the Cowboys was Drew Vassil (8-3). Vassil allowed just seven hits and three runs and struck out four Roadrunner hitters in his seven innings pitched. Derek Keith came in for a one inning appearance and allowed one hit, one run and struck out one batter in his appearance. Jacob Wood made a one-third inning appearance. Tyrell Curtis closed out the game for the Cowboys with a two-thirds inning appearance as he allowed just one hit, zero runs and struck out one batter to seal the win for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys will take the field again on 5/1 to take on the Roadrunners of Metro State in game two of this four game RMAC series at 12:00pm at Brandt Field in Las Vegas, N.M.
