The honors keep rolling in for the NMHU Cowboys baseball team as four Cowboys were named to the ABCA / Rawlings All-Central Region Teams. The Cowboys enjoyed one of the best years of record as they finished runner-up in the RMAC Tournament and qualified for the NCAA Baseball Central-Region Tournament. The Cowboys finished the 2009 season with a 39-21 overall record. The Cowboys named to the ABCA / Rawlings All-Central Region Teams are: Jason Carr, Crespin Perez, Christian Garcia and Drew Vassil.
Jason Carr (Jr.; DH; Puyallup, Wash.) was the lone first-team selection for the Cowboys. Carr finished the season with a .397 batting average, 79 hits, 21 doubles, 15 home runs, 70 RBI’s and a .729 slugging percentage.
Crespin Perez (Sr.; 1B; Escondido, Calif.), Christina Garcia (Jr.; OF; San Luis, Ariz.) and Drew Vassil (Jr.; P; Los Angeles, Calif.) were all named to the ABCA / Rawlings second-team. Perez finished the season with a .383 batting average, 80 hits, 23 doubles, six home runs, 51 RBI’s and a .579 slugging percentage. Garcia finished the season with a .455 batting average, 97 hits, two triples, 23 doubles, one home runs, 57 RBI’s and 22 stolen bases. Vassil finished the season with a 5.02 ERA, a 9-4 record, five complete games and 74 strikeouts.
Cowboy infielder, Oscar Sigala, was named to the Central Region All-Tournament Team as well Sigala was the lone Cowboy to be named to the All-Tournament Team. Sigala finished the season with a .396 batting average, 78 hits, 18 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs, 57 RBI’s and a .680 slugging percentage.
