NMHU Alumnus Gets the Call
Former NMHU Cowboy Chris Chavez received the best news he’s had yet in his professional career. He was called up to the Triple A Kansas Royals team, the Omaha Royals after being in the organization during the past four seasons. Chavez was part of the Cowboys Baseball team in 2006.
In June 2006, Chavez was signed as a non drafted free agent. He started in the Rookie Level with the Arizona League Royals. He has moved to different teams since his original signing but found himself with the high A Wilmington at the beginning of the 2009 season. While with Wilmington went 6-1 with an ERA of 1.95 and pitched 50.2 innings. Chavez was then moved up to the Double A affiliate of the Royals, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals where he had a short stint but performed well. In 4.2 innings pitched, he had an ERA of 3.86 before being called up to the Triple A team.
Chavez was called “brilliant” in his Triple A debut for the Omaha Royals. He went into the game in the bottom of the 5th inning and pitched 3 hitless innings. During those three innings he hit one batter, struck out three and did not walk any batters.
GO COWBOYS!!!
