Cowboys fall to Mesa State 52-7

The NMHU Cowboy football team started out their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on a sour note as they lost to the Mavericks of Mesa State College (1-2; 1-0 RMAC) by a score of 51-7. The Cowboys are now 0-3 (0-1 RMAC) and will be on the road this coming week as they travel to Gunnison Colo. to take on the Mountaineers of Western State College.
The Mavericks struck first in this battle of 0-2 record teams as they scored on a six yard run by QB Robert Felberg with 1:38 left in the first quarter and from then on it was all Mavericks as they ran away with the win. The Maverick racked up the yardage as they ended the day with 455 yards of total offense (319 rushing and 136 passing). The Cowboys continued to struggle offensively as they finished with 148 total yards (-26 rushing and 174 passing). The lone score for the Cowboys came off a 17 yard pass by Jordan Mendoza (6’3”; 195; R-FR; Clovis, N.M.) to Anthony Ratcliff (5’9”; 175; FR; Santa Fe, N.M.) with 10:26 left in the fourth quarter.
The Cowboys will be hitting the road this week as they travel to Gunnison, Colo. to take on the Mountaineers of Western State College. Kick-Off is scheduled for 1:00pm in Gunnison. If you can’t make the trip to see your Cowboys in action you can watch them live on the B2 Networks.
