The NMHU Cowgirls soccer team got another taste of victory as they travelled to Kearney, Neb. to take on the Lopers of the University of Nebraska-Kearney. The Cowgirls won by a final score of 1-0. The Cowgirls are now 2-3 in RMAC play after losing on the road earlier on the week to the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves 1-0.
Freshman Goalkeeper Lauren Waite was in the net for the Cowgirls for the whole game. Waite had one save with no goals allowed. Waite and the Cowgirl defense got their first shut out of the season with their tenacious play throughout the contest.
The Cowgirls stepped up as UNK had only three shots in the game while the Cowgirls had 15 shots for the game. Krista Mashak had four of those shots, leading the Cowgirls in shot attempts. Of those four shots, two were on goal and one was the game winning goal for the Cowgirls. Mashak’s goal from the box, assisted by Susannah Hertz and Kimberly Hutchings, was her first for the season.
The Cowgirls will travel to Portales, N.M. on 9/28 for a non-conference match up with the Zias of Eastern New Mexico University before resuming RMAC play when they travel to Grand Junction, Colorado to take on the Mavericks of Mesa State College on 10/2.
