Cowboys Fall to Washburn University

The NMHU Cowboy football team ran into a wall named Washburn University on 9/4 as the Cowboys fell to Ichabods by score of 82-21. The Cowboys managed to better their offensive output from their previous game as the managed to put some points on the board for the first time this season. The Cowboys will have to have short memories as they start conference play this week. The Cowboys will open up RMAC play with Mesa State College on 9/12 at 1:00pm in the friendly confines of Perkins Stadium in Las Vegas, N.M.

Offensively the Cowboys bettered their last performance with 269 total yards (128 rushing and 141 receiving). Offensive leaders for the Cowboys were: Robert Grant (Soph.; 6’0”; 170; Tucson, Ariz.), Jordan Mendoza (R-Fr.; 6’3”; 195; Clovis, N.M.) and Travis Lee (Sr.; 5’10”; 175; Los Angeles, Calif.). Grant rushed for 106 yards and had one touchdown on the night. Medoza completed nine of 13 passes for 80 yards and one touchdown. Lee had five catches for 73 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively the Cowboys struggled as Washburn University racked up 534 yards of total offense (284 rushing and 250 passing). Anthony Yarbrough led all defensive players in tackles with 10 for the evening.
