The NMHU Cowgirls hosted the Mountaineers from Western State College on 1/23 at the John A. Wilson Complex. The Cowgirls played their hearts out and in the end it showed, as they won 78-72.
The Mountaineers kept it close as they only allowed the Cowgirls’ biggest lead to be nine points. With six and a half minutes left in the game,
Katlyn Mary sunk a basket from three point land to tie the game and the Cowgirls didn’t look back from there. Four Cowgirls grabbed points in the double figures for the night.
The Cowgirls were led in scoring by
Whitney Polosky. She had 20 points and added in two rebounds and a steal for the Cowgirls. Amber Murray from the Mountaineers also scored 20 points, which would grab the two the title of high scorers for the game overall. Head Coach Tiffany Darling said, “Whitney continues to have a great freshman campaign as she led us with 20 points tonight.”
Following suit and having another great night was
Amanda Beauchamp. Beauchamp had 18 points and four rebounds for the night. After leading the Cowgirls’ scoring against RMAC foe Mesa State the night before, Beauchamp was held scoreless in the first half. Darling said, “ Amanda Beauchamp was the best player on the floor in the second half, after being held scoreless in the first half, she exploded for 18 points in the second half alone.”
Also scoring in the double figures were
Ashley Logan and Mary, with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Hope Williams led the defense with five rebounds. Four Cowgirls, including Beauchamp and Logan, had four rebounds on the night.
Darling added, “This was a huge win for us. I am very proud of this group for how they responded to a tough loss last night. Out depth was shown tonight as we had four players in double digits. This group continues to impress me with their commitment to doing things the right way. We are turning this program around one game at a time!”
