Coach Steve Jones Breaks All-Time Wins Record with 385th Win
Coach Jones Becomes Winningest Coach in NMHU History
Cowboy Baseball Head Coach Steve Jones
NMHU Head Baseball Coach Steve Jones has broken the All-Time Wins record for the NMHU Baseball Program and in doing so, became the winningest coach in NMHU history. Coach Jones earned his 385th win on 2/14 as his Cowboys defeated Hardin Simmons University by a final score of 16-3. Coach Jones now has a career record of 385-294 with a .567 winning percentage in his 13 years at the helm of the Cowboys Baseball program, which also makes Coach Jones the fastest to reach 385 wins in NMHU history. Coach Jones and his Cowboys are off to a great start as they are now 5-0 on the season and have done so in convincing fashion as they have outscored their opponents 96-18 in their first five games.
Coach Jones breaks the long standing record of Coach Jim Marshall of 384 wins, which Marshall accumulated in 17 seasons at NMHU. Coach Marshall is the only coach in NMHU history to win a team national championship, as his Cowboys won the 1967 NAIA Baseball National Championship.
“This is a great honor. Breaking this record is the result of three things; longevity, great players and a great system. I have been here for 13 seasons and have had the honor of coaching some great players over my career. The breaking of this record is because of the players that have come through this program, nothing special that I’ve done. I am just honored we have broken the record of the great Coach Jim Marshall. He did a lot for the NMHU Baseball Program and we are thankful for that. Breaking a record set by that caliber of a coach is the greatest honor. I am proud of my team and my past teams because without them this never would have happened. Now, the next step is doing what Coach Marshall’s team did in 1967; win a National Championship” said Coach Jones when asked how he felt of his Cowboys recent accomplishment.
