Wright vs CSC 2010
Seth Wright 125 lbs

The NMHU Cowboy Wrestling team hosted the Western State College Mountaineers on 2/17 for their last home dual of the year. Only two Cowboys were able to come out with a win making the final score 6-37, in favor of the Mountaineers who have three wrestlers in the top five in the nation for their weight class.

Starting out for the Cowboys was Travis Saxon at 165 lbs. It was a stalemate match as the match was scoreless until the second period. In the 3rd period with a little over a minute left WSC’s Caleb Lockyer got a 2 point reversal to put him in the lead by one point. Saxon then battled to get an escape point with 14 seconds left to even out the score. He had just enough riding time at 1:03 to earn another point and his first RMAC victory with a final score of 5-4.

Senior Adam Pacheco had a hard fought bout as he stepped on the Cowboys’ mat for the final time. He lost with a final score of 10-7. Mark Martinez wrestled the 184 lb bout for the Cowboys. He also had a hard fought battle but was unable to come out with the win as he lost 6-1. Senior Jesse Boggs faced off with the #4 Heavyweight in Division II, Charlie Alexander. Boggs was pinned at 1:37.

The only other victory for the Cowboys on the night came from #1 ranked Seth Seth Wright at 125 lbs, which wasn’t an easy match for him. Wright had to come from behind as he was down 2-0 after the first period. After the second period the score was 2-2 after a last second two point take down. Wright kept battling and with almost 20 seconds left in the match, he scored two points on a near fall earning him a victory in his last home match with a score of 4-2.

NMHU then suffered two losses, a pin and a forfeit to boost the Mountaineers ahead.
The Cowboys sent off three of their seniors, Boggs, Wright and Nicholas Sanchez. Sanchez has been with the program since its beginning year. Boggs has qualified for the National tournament three years running. Wright has earned RMAC Wrestler of the Week twice and is currently the #1 ranked 125 lb wrestler.

The Cowboys are now preparing for the RMAC Championships/ Western Regional Tournament hosted by Adams State College on 2/27 in Alamosa, Colorado.
