The NMHU Cowgirls travelled to Pueblo, Colo. to take on the Thunderwolves of CSU-Pueblo on 2/2. The Cowgirls would fall in this one as the Thunderwolves rode a second half surge to run away with a 75-57 win. The Cowgirls will have a few days until they hit the hardwood again on 2/6 as they play host to the Mustangs of Western New Mexico University at 6:00pm in the John A. Wilson Complex.
In the first half the Cowgirls played a tight game with the Thunderwolves as they went into the half trailing the defending RMAC Shootout Champs by a score of 29-25. The Cowgirls would have a better shooting percentage than the Thunderwolves in the first half as they shot 42.3% as a team compared to the 38.7% that the Thunderwolves shot in the first half. The hot shooting of the Cowgirls would not last in the second half as their fire seemed to fizzle and the Thunderwolves shooting caught fire. The Thunderwolves would use that second half rally to take a commanding lead and never look back as they would take this on by a final of 75-57. The final shooting percentages would show the swing as the Thunderwolves finished with a 42.9% shooting percentage and the Cowgirls would finish with a 37.3% shooting percentage.
Leading scorer for the Cowgirls was
Ashley Logan. Logan finished the night with 17 points, six rebounds and three assists on the night.
Ashley Godfrey was the only other Cowgirl in double figures as she finished the night with 10 points, three rebounds, one steal and one assist.
The Cowgirls will be in action again on 2/6 when they host the Mustangs of Western New Mexico University. Tip-off is set for 6:00pm in the John A. Wilson Complex in Las Vegas, N.M. If you can’t make the trip out to Las Vegas, you can catch the game live on the B2 Networks.
