Head Coach Justin Wagar has announced the signing of three more student- athletes to his fall 2010 roster. Wagar said, "We know these girls will help to solidify our roster as each one brings something different to the team to offer. They will help us towards our goal of turning this program around and making an impact on the RMAC."
Shelby Dalton will be transferring in as a junior center mid-fielder for the Cowgirls from Cochise College. Shelby has started in every game at Cochise for the past two seasons netting three goals and 13 assists during that time. Prior to her illustrious career at Cochise, she played for her high school in Ridgecrest, California. That team reached the CIF 2nd round playoffs in 2005. While earning the role as team captain for this team she was also awarded Offensive Player of the Year. She played club soccer in the California Youth Soccer Association- South division and was a member of the CAL-ELITE (u-18 silver elite) and THUNDER (u-19 gold) teams, both from Palmdale, California. Wagar said, "Shelby is good in the air and shields the ball well. She has an aggressive defensive presence in the midfield and has a powerful shot in open space."
Another transfer for the Cowgirls is Casey Rubin. She will be transferring from Santa Barbara City College in the fall. As a defensive center mid-fielder for SBCC, she was one of only three freshmen starters, WSC 2nd Team All Conference and Honorable Mention, Team Captain, and part of the SBCC 2008 WSC Championship Runner-Up. She has played on many club teams, most recently Casey played for the Crescenta Valley Girls U18 Gold team. Her club teams have earned honors as Nike Invitational Champions, Desert United Haute Classic Champions, Slammers Futbol Classic Champions and Santa Barbara Summer Classic Finalists, to name a few.
The last addition to the Cowgirl Soccer team for the 2010 season is Nicole Plaska. Nicole will be a freshman for the Cowgirls this fall. She played in high school for the La Costa Canyon Mavericks’ Varsity team for two years. She has scored four goals and had four assists while playing for this team. She’s earned awards as Defender of the Year and as a Scholar Athlete. Nicole plays club soccer for the San Diego Surf. In club soccer, her team has earned honors as Finalists in the Pegasus Cup, Arsenal Champions, 2nd Place finish in Presidio League Premier 1, and Southwest Classic Champions. Wagar added, “Nicole is a very aggressive and athletic outside defender who has a strong leg and tackles hard. She will help add needed depth to our backline next year while competing for a starting spot.”
The Athletic Department is excited t ohave each of these athletes and can't wait for their arrival.
