With a very generous gift from New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and N.M. Senator Phil Griego of one hundred thousand dollars, the NMHU Rodeo program has been saved from being discontinued after the 2010 season. The NMHU Rodeo program was very close to being discontinued by the NMHU Athletic Department due to budget cuts, but now they have a new lease on life with the onetime gift from the New Mexico officials.
“We are very pleased and grateful to have received this gift from our state officials. This shows their committed support to the sport of rodeo in New Mexico” said NMHU Rodeo Coach Jon Peek of the one hundred thousand dollar gift.
The one hundred thousand dollar gift was brought forth from the New Mexico Rodeo initiative and will carry the NMHU Rodeo program through the 2010-11 school year.
