The NMHU Rodeo Team travelled to their final competition for the year as they travelled to the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association competition in Las Cruces, NM.

Callie Jo Moore of the women’s team for their Championship performances. The quad of women helped to win the team title this weekend over New Mexico State with 350 points overall.
Zybach won the Breakaway Roping event with an average on two of 6.0 seconds. Her 1st Go time of 3.3 placed her 3rd and her 2nd Go, 2.7 won the Short Round to place her in 1st by 1.3 seconds. Zybach also placed in both rounds of the Goat Tying with runs of 8.2 and 7.9, and finished 2nd in the average. However, her greatest accomplishment on the weekend was being the #1 Top All Around Cowgirl of the rodeo. She earned 270 points on the weekend to blow the competition away. This was a great rodeo for the graduating senior and an awesome finish to her regular college rodeo season.
Smith had a great weekend in the Breakaway Roping and Goat Tying. In the Breakaway Roping she won 2nd in the 1st Go and 6th in the Average. In the Goat Tying she split 4th & 5th in the 1st round to help lead the women’s team to a Championship Title.
Samantha Lane had a blazing run of 7.4 on her first goat in the Goat Tying event to win the round.
Jesse Estrada came in a close 3rd place finish in the Bareback Riding event after his strong performance. He has worked hard to stay within championship performance.
Kurtis Barry had a good weekend placing in the 2nd round as well as the Average of the Tie Down Roping. He finished 3rdin the Short Round and finished 5th in the Average.
The season was a great building year and the athletes worked hard all season and were able to see their benefits come out in their performances. Thank you for all of the continued support the community has given to the Rodeo Team and we are looking forward to a great season next year.
