NMHU Head Volleyball Coach Jim Deisler and staff are pleased to announce their 2010 signing class. The Cowgirls have added four extremely athletic and talented athletes to their roster for the 2010 season. Darian Mullen (FR; 5’10”; Outside Hitter; Rio Rancho, N.M), Danielle Schaal (FR; 5’9”; Outside Hitter / Defensive Specialist; Twin Falls, Idaho), Emma Dickinson (JC Transfer; 5’7”; Libero; Marysville, Mich.) and Ashley Nugent (JC Transfer; 6’0”; Outside Hitter; Jackson, Mich.) have all committed to NMHU for the fall and will join Jazmine Harge (FR; 5’10”; Outside Hitter; Boise, Idaho) who signed with the Cowgirls in the early signing period.
Darian Mullen is a 5’10” outside hitter from Rio Rancho, N.M. Mullen was named the 5A Metro Athlete of the year in 2009. Mullen is extremely athletic with outstanding jumping ability and will make an immediate impact on the court for the Cowgirls. Mullen was a major player on a Rio Rancho HS team that won the New Mexico 5A State Championship in the 2007 and 2009 seasons. Rio Rancho also won the District 1-5A Championship in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Mullen was named to the New Mexico All-State 5A teams, the All District 1-5A teams and the All-Metro teams in 2007, 2008 and 2009. She was also named to the 2009 Prep Volleyball All American team. Coach Deisler and staff look for Mullen to be a huge asset to the Cowgirl Volleyball program.
Danielle Schaal is a 5’9” outside hitter from Twin Falls, Idaho. Schaal was a three sport athlete at Filer HS where she competed in Volleyball, Track & Field and Basketball. Schaal was named her team’s Most Valuable Player, Best Server and Best Defensive Player in 2010. Schaal was a three time state placer in the High Jump for FHS and was named the Best Rebounder for on her basketball team. Schaal is also a top performer in the classroom as well as on the court. Schaal was the National Honor Society President as well as was the recipient of the United Dairy Men of Idaho Distinguished Student Award.
Emma Dickinson is a 5’7” libero from Marysville, Mich. Dickenson is a junior college transfer from Jackson Community College in Jackson, Mich. Dickenson led JCC in digs in the 2008 season and was a starter for the Jets the entire 2008 season. In the 2009 season, Dickenson was a main contributor to JCC’s 22-18 overall record and their appearance in their Regional Championship Tournament. Dickenson leaves JCC as a two year starter for the Jets and is second in career aces with 73 and holds the career digs record with 899 in her two years at JCC.
Ashley Nugent is a 6’0” outside hitter from Jackson, Mich. Nugent finished her 2009 season with 351 kills, 98 blocks and 35 aces. Nugent was named the Michigan Community College Athletic Association All Conference Second Team in 2009. Coach Deisler and staff look for Nugent to contribute immediately for the Cowgirls in the fall.
The Cowgirl Volleyball team will hit the court for their first game of the 2010 season on 9/3 in Canyon, Texas as they take on Lubbock Christian University in the first round of the West Texas A&M University Volleyball Tournament.
