Head Soccer Coach Justin Wagar has added four more athletes to his roster for the upcoming season. He said, “ We look forward to expanding our roster with everyone on board to take on the RMAC. Every athlete will be contributing and these new additions are going to be part of that.”
Taylor Gonzales is coming to NMHU as a transfer from Chandler Gilbert Community College. Gonzales started every game for CGCC this past year as her team went 13-5-2 as the team was ranked as high as 13th in the nation for much of the season. She was a three time letter winner in high school and graduated with honors. She has earned a number of awards including Defensive MVP in 2007-08, 1st Team All Region 2007-08 and 2008-09, All State Honorable Mention in 2007-08, and 2nd Team All State in 2008-09. Her team made the Arizona State Quarterfinals in 2008-09. In 2008-09 she was named to the Dobson Mustang All Team Tournament. She was named to the AZ Republic All State Team in 2007-08 as well as 2008-09. She was part of the Regional Championship team from 2006 to 2009. Wagar said, “Taylor is a great athlete who uses her speed and aggressiveness to win defensive battles. She has good footwork and technique and the patience to not dive in when needed.”
Chelsea Carew will be joining her college teammate Taylor Gonzales from Chandler Gilbert CC also as a transfer to Highlands this fall. Before playing at CGCC, Carew played for Queen Creek HS where she's received 10 Varsity Letters between Volleyball, Soccer, and Softball. She was named 2 year MVP, Top Scorer, and received the Leadership Award. In soccer, she was named 1st Team All Region for 3 years, 3 years All Tribune. In Volleyball, she was named Honorable Mention All Region. Wagar said, “Carew played as an outside midfielder for CGCC this year and did a fine job. We're excited to add Chelsea to the team. She isn't afraid to go in hard on tackles and win 50/50 balls for her team as well as being a good distributor and passer.”
Jordan Dinneen (in black)
Jordan Dinneen will also be joining the Cowgirls in the fall. She played for the Alaska Olympic Development Program team for three years, the Alaska Northstars State Select Team, and was a member of the region 4 ODP pool. She was a member of the varsity soccer team for South Anchorage High where they were nationally ranked last year and finished 2nd in the State Championship. Wagar noted, “Jordan has a strong left foot that allows her to get off good crosses into the box from the outside mid position and shots on frame. Jordan is fit and has good speed and was also an all conference cross country runner as well as all conference soccer player in high school. Jordan will make a good addition to the team bringing a high work rate and provide depth for us in the midfield for years to come.”
Finally, joining the Cowgirls as an incoming freshman is Ashley Haprov. She was a member of the Varsity soccer team at Valley Christian High School for three years. She has earned honors as a 2nd Team All-League member in the 2009 and 2010 seasons and CIF runner up in the Olympic League. Most recently, she played on Beach Soccer Club's U19 Gold team.
