To qualify, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution. Graduate students must have earned a 3.30 in their undergrad and graduate classes. The listed GPA is what the student-athletes had earned prior to softball season beginning. The senior guard from Las Vegas, NM helped lead the Cowgirls to an 11-15 overall record, their best finish in years.
Armijo led the Cowgirls in scoring with 286 points on the season, putting her in the 22nd spot in the RMAC while playing 846 total minutes. Her three point shooting percentage was .338, which put her at 21st in the RMAC. The Cowgirls faced off against the Mavericks of Mesa State College and were behind by 12 points in the first half but took the lead and never looked back as they defeated the Mavericks 62-55. The Mountaineers came away with the victory and securing their spot in the RMAC Shootout as they beat the Cowgirls 90-81. At one point in the night, the Cowgirls were down by as much as 17 points. The Cowgirls lost to the Mustangs 69-62 in their hard fought battle. The Cowgirls are now 10-14 overall and 5-12 in RMAC play.
The Cowgirls and Mustangs traded the lead for much of the game until the Mustangs took off with just over a minute left. Wilson Complex was full of excitement as Tuesday night was a huge night for the Cowgirls basketball team. The Cowgirls hosted the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves, who have won the RMAC Tournament for the past two years. The Cowgirls also had their Senior Night, as their seniors played in their last home game of the year, and Shootin&rsquo; for the Cure for Breast Cancer Awareness. First on the agenda for the Cowgirls were the Fort Lewis Skyhawks, who are currently ranked #1 in the Region. The last time the two teams met up, the Skyhawks won 94-40. The Cowgirls would fall in this one as the Thunderwolves rode a second half surge to run away with a 75-57 win. The Cowgirls will have a few days until they hit the hardwood again on 2/6 as they play host to the Mustangs of Western New Mexico University at 6:00pm in the John A. Wilson Complex.
