The NMHU Wrestling program will be holding a fundraising Golf Tournament on 8/6 at Cochiti Golf Course in Cochiti, N.M. The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference has released the names of the student athletes who have been named to the Academic All- RMAC teams and Honor Roll in softball and baseball. To qualify, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution. Graduate students must have earned a 3.30 in their undergrad and graduate classes. The listed GPA is what the student-athletes had earned prior to softball season beginning. NMHU’s own Seth Wright made history on 3/13 in Omaha, NE as he wrestled his way to a NCAA Division II National Championship. This is the first ever NCAA National Championship for NMHU in any sport. Wright's victory came as he went 4-0 for the tournament. Wright’s first victory came over Augustana’s Alex Meger with a 10-8 decision. The Cowboy Wrestling team completed their regular season as they finished in ninth place at the 2010 Super Regional Four/ RMAC tournament in Alamosa, CO this past weekend beating out Colorado Scool of Mines and Mesa State College. The NMHU Cowboy Wrestling team hosted the Western State College Mountaineers on 2/17 for their last home dual of the year. Seth Wright, NMHU’s 125 lb wrestler has earned the spot as #1 in the nation in his respective weight class. Wright has also earned accolades this year as RMAC Wrestler of the Week on two separate occasions. En route to earning the number one spot Wright accumulated a 10-2 record, a percentage of .833, and tallied two pins. The NMHU Cowboy wrestling team had their first home duals of the season this week as they hosted nationally ranked Fort Hays University and the University of Central Oklahoma. The John A. Wilson Complex saw plenty of top contenders in each of the weight classes. NMHU 125 pounder Seth Wright has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week. Wright earned this honor with his outstanding performance in this past week of competition. Wright increased his overall record to 5-1 (2-0 RMAC) with some great RMAC wins. Wright started out his week with a solid win over Mesa State College’s Tyler Nelson on 1/7. Wright quickly defeated Nelson as he pinned the Maverick’s 125 pounder 2:12 into the match.
