The Cowgirl Soccer team began their season with a game against the Saints from St. Martin’s University on 9/5. The Cowgirls took the early lead, allowed the Saints to catch up and then didn’t look back from there. Head Soccer Coach Justin Wagar has added four more athletes to his roster for the upcoming season. He said, “ We look forward to expanding our roster with everyone on board to take on the RMAC. Every athlete will be contributing and these new additions are going to be part of that.” Taylor Gonzales is coming to NMHU as a transfer from Chandler Gilbert Community College. Gonzales started every game for CGCC this past year as her team went 13-5-2 as the team was ranked as high as 13th in the nation for much of the season. The Cowgirls soccer team ended their season on a very sweet note. The Cowgirls played host to the University of Nebraska Kearney Lopers on 11/1 at Perkins Stadium. The Cowgirls destroyed the Lopers 8-0 in their last game of the 2009 season. A number of Cowgirls scored their first goals of the season in the match up against the Lopers. The Cowgirls Soccer team lost their momentum as they battled the elements and the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers on 10/25 at Perkins Stadium. The Orediggers defeated the Cowgirls 2-0 on a frigid Las Vegas day. Revenge was sweet for the Cowgirls as the Adams State Grizzlies left Perkins Stadium with a loss. The Cowgirls beat the Grizzlies 2-0 in what proved to be a very physical game on 10/23 as the Cowgirls kicked off the Kickin’ & Diggin’ for the Cure weekend the NMHU campus on a positive note. The NMHU Soccer team played two games this weekend, one on the road and one at home. They came out of the weekend 0-2 but had some successes during the weekend. The Cowgirls first traveled to Colorado Springs, Colo. on 10/16 to take on the UCCS Mountain Lions. The Cowgirls would eventually fall to UCCS 3-0. The Cowgirls then played host to #6 Metro State College on 10/18. The NMHU Cowgirls Soccer team took a huge blow when they travelled to Alamosa, Colo. to take on the Adams State College Grizzlies. After a hard fought match for first part of the first period, the Cowgirls would eventually fall to the Grizzlies by a final score of 3-0. The Cowgirls are now 2-13-0 overall and 2-8-0 in RMAC play. The NMHU Cowgirls Soccer team had a rough weekend as they lost two very tough RMAC games. The Cowgirls took on the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions at Perkins Stadium to start their weekend series. The Cowgirls would eventually lose to the Mountain Lions 1-0 after a hard fought match.
